What Is Resilience? (An excerpt from Understanding Resilience)
Simply stated: Resilience is an outward expression of inner growth. It’s a state of being that is the result of showing up repeatedly and consistently over time. When we show up for ourselves and actually do the work we need to do to grow and evolve, we build a few byproducts, one of which is resilience. This, in turn, allows us to find a core stability that we can draw on when things become challenging.
As a byproduct of other endeavors, you can’t set out with a specific goal to cultivate resilience. This means that when you make the decision to work on yourself in a way that supports your inner growth (mentally, emotionally, and spiritually), you are building resilience at the same time. In that regard, resilience is a positive side effect of making decisions to work on yourself and your soul’s progression. In the same way that physically working out your body can create muscle memory alongside strength, working on your inner world can create resilience alongside healing.
So, if resilience is the outward expression of the inner work, this also means that it is the result of the soul working in conjunction with the body, mind, and emotions. Therefore, it’s multi-faceted in how it can serve you as you continue to move forward through life.
