Tips & Quips—TIP: Use "Fit" Instead
As a reminder, all posts in May 2024 are free to all subscribers. This includes the Tuesday Tips & Quips, like this one. Happy reading!
Changing our language deliberately is one of the more powerful things we can do when we are trying to improve our lives. It may seem small, but it’s mighty. Here’s one I have found useful myself over the years:
Change “good” and “bad” to “fit.”
For example, instead of saying: “That thing is bad,” say: “That thing isn’t a good fit.” To make it even more powerful, you can add: “for me.” This looks like:
That thing isn’t a good fit for me.
You can also add “right now” if you want to, which would be even more accurate, though depending on the situation, could leave doors open that you don’t want to leave open, or even ajar.
Most things in life aren’t inherently good or bad. There is always a qualifier to be used. When we move away from such black and white language, we open up an incredible amount of potential—potential to be happier, more grounded, and live more peacefully overall.
Try it and see how it goes. Let me know in the comments.
