Often when we see someone experiencing troubles or suffering and we think they are somehow deserving of it, we hear people say things like: “Karma time!” or “It’s payback time,” or even “Karma’s a bitch.” We feel justified in somewhat revelling in their misfortunes because we feel they are owed, or earned, and we are quick to place blame on the person themselves.
Interestingly, however, when we experience suffering or misfortune ourselves, we aren’t as quick to apply the same rules about Karma to our own life. We often look externally for someone to blame—for it to be someone else’s fault. Why? Probably because it’s too painful to look in the mirror and get honest about our role in what’s going on or what has happened. I get it. It’s hard.
But to behave this way is akin to wanting to grow radishes but planting seeds for carrots and then blaming the earth when you harvest the long, orange root vegetable instead of what you wanted. It’s not the soil’s fault you planted something you didn’t want or didn’t pay attention to; it’s yours.
This is why understanding and tending to our Karma is so important: It gives us a very clear roadmap to create a better life, one that leads to healing, inner peace, and freedom. By truly understanding how Karma works and then applying that understanding to your life, you can find a greater sense of joy and purpose, even though it may be hard at times to look in the mirror. However, once you do, you will find that you can eventually be free of the thoughts and emotions that plague you. Owning your part, and then changing your behavior to be more aligned with the life you want, is the pathway to peace.
To help you accomplish that, I wrote a short book, Understanding Karma, which is out today. Over the years, I have received hundreds of comments and questions on my most-read blog: The Law of Karma and Wishing Harm on Others. Every month thousands of people read this blog, mostly because they are looking for a solution to their problem, to something that is hurting them. Though I have personally responded to dozens of comments, it has become unsustainable; I can’t respond to everybody. Therefore, I thought the best thing to do was to create a simple book that presents the concept of Karma in easy-to-understand language, while also being beautiful and engaging. If you’ve ever wanted to get clarity on what Karma actually means, and, perhaps more importantly, why you should want to know, I invite you to read this book.
In addition to the book, I have recorded a guided meditation to help you begin to heal, from the inside out. This meditation was designed to cultivate a path to freedom and inner peace.
Understanding Karma is the first book in a series of short-format, full-color works titled simply: UNDERSTANDING. The rest of the series will address other topics that I have been asked about over the years, in the same easy-to-understand manner. Each book was created by partially channeling and meditating on the information, then writing it through the lens of over 20 years of professional experience. As the series progresses, a new book will be introduced approximately every 2 months. Future titles include: Understanding Grief, Understanding Gratitude, Understanding Resilience, Understanding Energy, Understanding Hope, and Understanding Compassion.
